The Colonial Marines B/3-7. B/3-7 is the informal name of a group of science fiction costumers in Maryland and Pennsylvania dedicated to celebrating the Colonial Marine characters from James Cameron’s 1986 film Aliens. While we do not reproduce the actual characters from the movie, our goal is to wear costumes that are true to the Colonial Marines mythos and to the documented fictional universe they inhabit. This group started with one guy, Rob Slater (screen name: Tarim-Rex, a.k.a. “Sarge”), when he decided to start working on a Colonial Marine costume to debut at the Maryland sci-fi convention Farpoint. His enthusiasm became infectious and he unintentionally recruited a number of his fellow 501st Legion (Star Wars) garrison friends to join him. When we had enough interest to fill up an entire USCM squad, we decided to band together and pool resources, thus our group arose. As the Colonial Marines costuming community is simply a gathering of friends with one group name, nothing more. We have no application forms, initiation rites, or secret handshakes. If you are a Colonial Marines costumer from the MD, WV, DC, Southern PA or Northern VA areas– or you are seriously interested in becoming one– we’re willing to have you aboard.
